fGiven the inherent vulnerability of fire doors to damage and misuse, regular inspections and remediation are essential not just to prevent the need for replacement but, more crucially, to ensure ongoing compliance with safety regulations.

Ensuring Compliance   Safeguarding Lives

While fire doors may seem like any other door, they perform critical roles during fire outbreaks. They serve as a barrier, containing fire spread, and confine cold smoke, aiding safe evacuation for occupants. In extreme situations, they provide firefighters with safe entry into burning buildings.

Regular inspections and remediations are vital, not just to avoid costly replacements, but primarily to ensure ongoing compliance and effectiveness in safeguarding lives and property.

Approved Repair Techniques

Every fire door must show performance evidence to confirm compliance with the required standards for its particular location and purpose. The doors should be individually numbered and included in a comprehensive maintenance schedule. For existing fire doors lacking documented history, they undergo inspection, remediation, and certification whenever feasible, denoted as either “AS TESTED” or “TO THE LIMITATION OF THEIR REPAIR,” depending on the door’s location and the building’s fire strategy allowances.

We inspect and remediate doors under BRE/LPCB scheme LPS 1197, which enables previously uncertified doors to be covered by a Certificate of Conformity. Together with the creation of bespoke maintenance Fire Door Protocols, this allows unique information for each fire door to be created so that fire doors in a building can be maintained in accordance with an electronic ‘golden thread’ of information.
