Universities, Colleges & Schools Fire Safety & Compliance
Passive fire protection in schools and universities is crucial for the safety of students, staff and the school community, while also safeguarding the premises. Schools and universities can create a safer learning environment and reduce the risk of fire-related incidents by implementing comprehensive fire protection measures.
Whether carrying out inspections, surveys, remediation, or installation work, our efforts are dedicated to protecting the lives of students. Our skilled team has extensive experience operating in open environments and sensitive locations. We’ve carried out substantial work not only in halls of residence, but also in various campus buildings, such as lecture theatres, common rooms and laboratories.

Passive Fire Protection
Unique Challenges
Passive fire protection in educational facilities poses a particular challenge due to their diverse and dynamic nature. These environments are often characterised by complicated building structures with numerous rooms, corridors, and open spaces. Regardless of whether the facility consists of modern structures or is housed in heritage or listed buildings, all require effective passive fire protection. Facilities housed in older buildings may not meet current fire safety standards and retrofitting them without disrupting daily operations can pose a significant challenge.
Maintaining passive fire protection measures such as fire doors, fire-resistant walls and seals is critical to their long-term effectiveness. However, regular maintenance amidst busy teaching schedules and limited maintenance resources can be challenging.
Operating in educational settings presents additional challenges, as they are usually heavily frequented with students, teachers, and staff moving around the buildings on a daily basis. This requires robust fire compartmentation and well-planned escape routes.
In all our projects, our main focus is on creating a safe working environment for our employees and ensuring the safety of building users. To minimise disruption, we adapt our working hours to quieter periods, thereby reducing disturbance to school operations.
