RD7-1 Fire Door Inspection Book Launch

To coincide with the Golden Thread Fire Delay Fire and Evacuation seminar the next day, Reference Document RD-7 “Fire Door Inspections in University and College Buildings” was launched by Alan Oliver, Director, Golden Thread Fire Delay.

A Kings College London working group have adapted the NAHFO written and NFCC approved reference document on how to inspect fire doors in Healthcare Buildings, which is now itself recommended as part of the NHS England guidance on operational provisions for fire safety for healthcare sector buildings and premises and created a new guide specifically for the University and Colleges of the UK.

Robustly peer reviewed by BRE, Aviva, London Fire Brigade, and with valuable contributions from Sheffield University, University of Birmingham, Roehampton University, University of Exeter, University for the Creative Arts, University of East Anglia, Brighton University, Imperial College, Loughborough University, University of London, University of Surrey, University College London, Unite Students, York University, Brunel University, The Mansion Group, Canterbury Christ Church University, the new reference document explains why fire doors should be inspected in three different ways, and how to specify, inspect, manage and maintain fire doors in University and Colleges.

Alan Oliver said, “I am grateful to the Kings College Working Group for their efforts in creating this new reference document, and to the collective group of Fire Safety Officers and Advisors from the Universities above, for their incredibly valuable contributions, too. Without these efforts, this new Reference Document on how to inspect fire doors in University and College buildings would not exist. I hope that this guide and collaborative learning days like the Golden Thread Fire Delay seminar tomorrow all help create a safer environment for our students”
